Lately, more so than ever (our dog Opie just had knee surgery last week for a ripped cruciate setting us back at least $1100 so far), I’ve had to really start paying attention to our finances and the flow of them. I had been floating through the clouds for a long time, not caring or understanding why by the end of the month, we were turning to credit cards to help us get through. Add a few sicknesses, a couple major dog problems, too much fast food and a slew of other money suckers to the mix and there I go heading up you know who’s creek with no stinkin’ paddle.
Personally, I think finances, debt & credit (in particular) should be thoroughly explored and discussed in High School and integrated into the mandatory curriculum. Of course it’s one of the furthest things in your head at that point of life, but I do believe it would have helped me a bit in my poor decisions and predicaments that were caused otherwise.
We can’t change whats been done, but we can make it through and past the clouds ahead. Our family is now past the peak of overindulgence and working towards getting out of debt & removing it’s un-needed stress. As I try different ways of saving, earning, budgeting & eventually investing, I’ll share with you my trials and tribulations.
